Parent / Daughter & Alumnae

Weekends

Parent – Daughter Weekends

We all want to spend more time with our children, and more importantly, we all need to. Day in and day out, there is an ever-growing list of things that interfere with the valuable quality time that we know we need to be investing in our kids. Between a child’s weekly extracurricular activities and a parent’s busy work and home life, finding time to get away with our children is more crucial now than ever before. Our focus at Mt. Gilead is to help strengthen the core values that girls need to develop as they grow up in today’s society, there is nothing more crucial to a young women’s growth than spending one-on-one time with their greatest mentors, their Mom and their Dad.

Parent/Daughter Canoe Trips (Ages 12 and Up):

This shortened weekend (Friday & Saturday) is all about spending quality time in nature with your daughter as you paddle down the peaceful Delaware River from Bushkill, PA, to Stroudsburg, PA.

After arriving on Friday evening at Mt. Gilead, our staff will go over safety guidelines and paddle strokes with parents and daughters, followed by s’mores around the bonfire! Lodging at camp is included Friday night.

  • Breakfast, pack lunches, canoes, paddles, lifejackets, and transportation are provided on Saturday morning as we head to the river for drop-off.

  • Experienced Mt. Gilead staff (certified lifeguards) will lead parents and daughters down the river for the day, stopping for lunch river-side, and even some “rock-jumping” – if time permits. Expect to arrive back at camp by late afternoon before heading home on Saturday.

  • This is a peaceful day on the river, full of beautiful landscapes, bald eagles, great exercise, and most importantly: special one-on-one time with your daughter.

Only one parent and one daughter per canoe for this trip, if you have multiple daughters, consider the Mom/Daughter Weekend.

The trip will be postponed or refunded if dangerous weather is anticipated.

Alumni Retreat – June 16 – 18, 2023

It only takes a spark. Anyone who has spent time at Mt. Gilead (Camp Cherith) in the last 65 years knows there is more than one kind of spark to a fire: there’s the spark of the match, the spark on that first tiny twig as it sputters to life; there’s the spark that flies into the night sky, sometimes falling back down on the grass to disappear.  My favorite, though, is the glowing spark. It’s the red-hot pile of light after all the flames are extinguished. We turn off our flashlights to watch it pulse and throb with life. We warm up to its glowing, and we take its smoky scent with us when we go.

Mt. Gilead Alumnae—those who have loved camp as girls, ministered there as young women—each contain something like that ember in our hearts.  What would happen if we piled the embers together, blew on them with songs and games and memories, and added the fuel of God’s unchanging Word? – Emily Cantilina (Speeza)
