“I want to stay!” “When can I go to camp?” “I’m big enough to stay!” These are the cries often heard by the younger sisters and friends of campers. Now Mt. Gilead has a program specifically designed for these young first time campers to help parents and campers alike with the adjustment of being away at camp for the first time.
The Young Adventurers arrive on Sunday morning and stay through Wednesday afternoon. These campers will get a sampling of many camp activities in an abbreviated week, but there is no abbreviation on fun! These activities could include, but are not limited to, archery, ceramics, crafts, swimming, paddle boating, pony rides, hiking, games, nature, sign language, drama and kayaking. They will also participate in other activities with the rest of the campers in their division. The Young Adventurers all live together in a cabin with their counselor who is specifically chosen for her abilities to help these young campers adjust to being away from home and help them develop and thrive on their developing skills of independence and responsibility.
Campers entering grades 2 and higher may also attend camp for a full week if they choose.
