Young Adventurers
I want to stay! When can I go to camp?
Im big enough to stay!
These are the cries often heard by the younger sisters and
friends of campers. Now Mt. Gilead has a program specifically
designed for these young first time campers to help parents
and campers alike with the adjustment of being away at camp
for the first time. Our Young Adventurers Program was implemented
last year and was a great success.
The Young Adventurers arrive on Wednesday morning and stay
through Saturday morning the first week of camp. These campers
will get a sampling of many camp activities in an abbreviated
week, but there is no abbreviation on fun. These activities
could include, but are not limited to, archery, ceramics,
crafts, swimming, paddle boating, pony rides, hiking, games,
nature, sign language, drama and kayaking. They will also
participate in our all-camp hike up The Mountain
and participate in other activities with the rest of the campers
in their division. The Young Adventurers all live together
in a cabin with their counselor who is specifically chosen
for her abilities to help these young campers adjust to being
away from home and help them develop and thrive on their developing
skills of independence and responsibility.
This program is open to girls completing 1st through 4th
grade. There are a limited numbers of spots available so be
sure to register early! The registration fee is $50 (non-refundable
and non-transferable) and the room, board, and activities
fee is $100. Scholarships are available if there is financial
need.
